One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?"

He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

In East Texas, the First Baptist Church pastor of this community just delivered a GOP 'sermon' at the annual Memorial Day gathering on the courthouse lawn, spending about half an hour blaming "the media" for creating the wrong impression about the Iraq War, which actually is going splendidly, if the lying media could only be eliminated from the planet.

He read a letter from a soldier as evidence. I am not sure the soldier doesn't view journalists as a bigger threat than the jihadists at this point.

The Southern Baptists are not the only game in town, but they are by far the largest. They still view the Chimperor as an honorary fourth member of the Trinity.

BTW, the Baptist pastor is about 30 years of age and very physically fit. I am wondering why he is not on the front lines with the soldier who wrote him.

Romney may NOT read newspapers. Bush proudly admits he hardly ever reads ANYTHING, especially not newspapers, which are run by the "media" which "won't let us win" in Iraq.

But you have to be deliberately NOT paying attention NOT to realize that the Shias and the Sunnis are waging a vicious civil war (or "sectarian violence," as they always say to avoid saying "civil war"). Iran (Shia) and Saudi Arabia (Sunni) are the major countries behind this and there is no way they will EVER be ALLIED against "the West" (whatever the hell, that is; I thought I was an American, not a "Westerner").

Our soldiers are targets in the midst of that "sectarian violence" in addition to attempting to quell the Ba'ath Party-based "insurgency" (which is Sunni-based).

"Al Qaeda" is a catch-all term for "the boogieman." In fact, I substitute the latter every time I hear one of the fearmongers claim "Al Qaeda" is behind something. Political conservatives tend toward a bombings-and-beheadings view of Islam. Listen to their radio shows and you can hear it. Their tribalism overwhelms their sympathy. They fail to see that ordinary Muslims are a lot like them.

This is why you have to be really STOOPID to be a Southern Baptist
preacher or congregant. On practically every issue aside from the
deity of Christ, SBCers and Islamists have FAR MORE in common with one
another than they do with the rational-minded people of this or any
other country on earth.

It also proves that the SBC religion is very shallow in that once a
political leader (who is not even SBC himself, unlike Jimmy Carter,
whom the SBCers loathed) who merely says "Christ is my favorite
philosopher" in a debate decides to single out some part of the world
as the enemy to be eradicated, the congregants lose all focus on (and,
in fact, ignore) the teachings of their holy book and instead
tribalistically worship the flag and the leader as they sign up in
droves for the supposed holy blood-letting in vengeance (also
contradicting what the founder of the faith taught).

In short, they became Romans rather than remained Christians after
9/11. And good luck EVER getting them to examine WHAT REALLY HAPPENED
on that day, which had very little to do with 19 Saudis et al. with
boxcutters any more than Lee Harvey Oswald had much to do with JFK's
brains being blown out from a shot to the front of his head (while
LHO, if he was shooting at all, only had an angle to the back).

One would tend to want to say "Father, forgive them, for they know not
what they do," but many at this point in those congregations DO know
what they are doing and that they have fallen for lies and STILL will
not "come out from among them" and "be separate."
