The Great Physician and his earthly assistants watch over us again
Gilmer Mirror Publisher Emeritus Sarah Greene was resting comfortably Wednesday morning, July 20,on the third floor of East Texas Medical Center Tyler after undergoing surgery on Tuesday, July 19, to repair neck and back injuries suffered in a one-car auto accident on Thursday, July 14, in Big Sandy. A fuller account of that accident begins below.
The surgery began about 3:45 p.m. and lasted about an hour. Dr. Jon Ledlie and Dr. Paul W. Detwiler, both neurosurgeons, performed the operation.
It is thought at this time that no further surgery will be required, even though she has another broken vertebra further down her back, but she will have to wear a specially-made body brace for which she has already been fitted every day for the next five months.
Mrs. Greene was pleasantly surprised just before her surgery to learn that her anesthesiologist was Dr. Bill Daniels of Tyler, whose wife, Delaine, is a dentist in Gilmer. Both are graduates of Harmony High School.
Mrs. Greene, 76, again wishes to thank all those who have thought and prayed for her during this time.
